Kate & Ralf – Boulder Engagement Session

It was so fun to meet Kate and Ralf in person after chatting via phone and skype from California. Kate and Ralf’s inquiry via my website caught my attention immediately, Kate wrote:

A little about us:
Ralf and I have been together for 4 years this June. We met in our work cafeteria a couple weeks after he moved to the US from Berlin via Hong Kong and Bangalore. Having just moved to The Bay from Mammoth, I also was in a strange land (my first time living below 6,000 ft and in such a busy city) was immediately attracted to his dreadlocks. We quickly became friends. We both share a great love of being outside; cycling, backpacking, climbing, skiing/snowboarding, and though he doesn’t run, he always supports me in my long races! Every weekend another fun adventure is waiting in our backyard, or a road trip away! He proposed this December while we were backpacking the W in Torres del Paine. We are now in the process of planning our wedding from the Bay Area (where we live), in my home, (Colorado!), and trying to get as many of his family and our friend over from Germany (his home) as possible, hence the July 2013 date. We’re dealing with a few time zones and school schedules!
Being avid travelers and outdoor people (your profile and photo’s really spoke to us), we are hoping to create a celebration that reflects that, as well and brings together our different groups, my English speaking family, his German speaking family, and our bi and try lingual friends from the Bay. We chose Redstone because we were looking for a quaint place for our guest to enjoy the mountains and get to know each other. If everyone there is with the wedding party, hopefully people will feel more comfortable saying “HI!” or “Guten Morgen!” knowing they are among friends =)

I was immediately intrigued, and I said to Kate:

Thank you for contacting me.I have to say that your inquiry is the best I have ever received. I love that you included how you met, what you like to do and what you are looking for for your wedding!  It all sounds wonderful and you both sound like people I would love!!

So when I finally got to meet the two of them in Boulder last summer for their Colorado engagement session, I felt as if I already knew them and that I was meeting up with friends. Kate and Ralf included their love of the outdoors (by choosing a natural setting), Kate’s father’s vintage Fiat (that she grew up driving), and Ralf’s passion for Ultimate Frisbee (which has brought him around the globe!) into their session, which added to the fun and let their personalities shine.

Thank you so much for spending the evening with me last summer Kate & Ralf. It was such fun. I am SO excited about your upcoming wedding at Redstone Inn.

All the best, Rachel

  1. Very cute post, Rach! I especially love the B&W image shot through the windshield… reminds me of an “Eternity” ad. And you are going to love the Redstone Inn… it’s a Colorado gem.
